 Candle Offering Ceremony at Wat Khlong Thom, 2024: Preserving and Promoting Buddhist Activities during Asalha Puja and Buddhist Lent

**July 19, 2024** - Wat Khlong Thom, Khlong Thom District, Krabi Province. Colonel Thanawat Saisakulrat, Commander of the 1st Infantry Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, along with Mr. Phusit Boonphluk, Deputy Mayor of Khlong Thom Tai Subdistrict Municipality, participated in the candle offering ceremony to promote Buddhism during Asalha Puja and the Buddhist Lent of 2024. The candles were offered to Phra Kru Satitnarathikan, the district abbot of Khlong Thom Tai and the abbot of Wat Khlong Thom. The event saw participation from military officials, local administrative executives, officials from Khlong Thom Tai Subdistrict Administrative Organization, and the Khlong Thom District Non-Formal and Informal Education Center, as well as local residents.

Before the candle offering ceremony, a candle parade was held. The procession featured beautifully decorated floats carrying the candles, followed by officials, students, local residents, and traditional dancers. The parade began at the Choe Sue Kong Shrine on Petchkasem Road, passing through Khlong Thom and culminating at Wat Khlong Thom for the subsequent ceremony.

After the candle offering, a candlelit procession took place around the ordination hall of Wat Khlong Thom to mark Asalha Puja. This event aims to preserve and promote the beautiful traditions and culture of the nation and the local community, ensuring the continued support and reverence for Buddhism. It also fosters unity and love among the local people, contributing to the enduring presence of Buddhism in Thai society.
